Hey guys, I'm fairly new to tinkering with computers and have mostly been teaching myself over the last couple months. I bought myself a Biwin 128gb SSD to add to my Toshiba Sattelite
C875D with Windows 7. I plan to run my OS and a few main programs/games on the SSD while keeping pictures, documents, etc, on the old HDD.
My main problem is setting up the SSD in the first place. I'm currently using a SATA 3 to USB 3.0 cable. When I first got it, I tried cloning my OS to it, but that didn't work (wouldn't boot) so I formated it to try a new install. Now the new SSD appears in BIOS, device manager, Diskpart, and Disk Management but not under the computer tab. I can't seem to do anything with it. When I open Disk Management, it states that the SSD must be initialized and gives me the option of MBR or GPT. Either option gives me Data Error (cyclic redundancy check). I've read to run chkdsk to fix this however there is no drive letter to pick from. I've tried clear attributes readonly in diskpart but it tells me it failed to clear them.
I think i'm over my head and could really use some help. There's nothing on the SSD so if i could somehow format/reset it maybe? Also, when I rescan in diskpart the SSD disappears from diskpart but still shows up in all the other places as usual. Unplugging and plugging back in fixes this and before you ask i've checked and rechecked the drivers. Hopefully I didn't kill it or something already.
