New SSD with old HDD

I'm planning on reinstalling windows on the ssd but i'm wondering if i can use the old drive already with windows installed and take all the data off it and put it on the ssd.
Or should I just wipe it and reinstall programs afterwards? Thanks

well you can use cloning software that's what i used for the same problem

Yes but my HDD is 500gb with 400gb used. My ssd is only 128gb

Then you don't have a lot of choices.
Install the OS, then install your applications. You can't use the applications where they reside on the current HDD.
