New system advice please (quick cos I want it this week...)

Urgent help need please, need to get this sorted this week.

Budget Range: £800-900 (for the parts I still need)

System Usage from Most to Least Important: 90% for gaming needs, want the best I can afford. I only really use it for internet other than that.

Are you buying a monitor: NO.

Parts to Upgrade: Mobo, Ram, CPU, Case. Current PSU is Corsair HX 750 (brand new)

Do you need to buy OS: No

Additional Comments: Discreet but powerful. All about function, no bling.

And Most Importantly, Why Are You Upgrading: long ass story that one. PSU broke, so bought a new one and thought I would go for a SSD as well, as my hard drive (Western digital raptor 300) is about 5 years old and slowing down. Then I bought assassins creed 3, Hit man absolution and far cry 3 and stared getting low video memory warnings in windows so I looked at a new video card to replace the two year old GTX 480. Ended up buying a GTX 680... and was disappointed with benchmarks, which I figured was down to a bottle neck of not having the alatest conectors, (PCI 3 and SATA3)

As the rest of the PC was 3.5 years old I thought it might be time to upgrade, and gotthe upgrade bug when I stared looking at components. Decided to do the whole lot..

Now as a bit of history, the current build is an GA-X58-UD5 with an i7 920 @3.6 OC, 6Gb of Corsair Dominator Ram @ 1333.

The parts I am keeping are a new Gigabyte GTX 690 OC 4096 Mb, a Samsung 830 256gb SSD and the Corsair HX 750.

I have two build in mind, and I actually already paid for one yesterday, but after doing some reading I am now really unsure if I did the right thing. It is not too late to stop the shipping and change the order so here are the two baskets (paid one first)

Really I am confused as hell about which chip set to go for... a lot of what I have read online suggests to go for the 1155 socket for gaming as the 2011 is not needed / overpriced, but theese threads were older and the 3770K and 3820 were not out then... these two are really close in price, as are the mobo.

The case is on-negotiable, I know it is over priced, BUT it has outstanding cooling performance and looks good. So many other case are massively ugly or ostentatious.

Please could someone give me an urgent reply about the benfits/pitfalls of choosing either set up. What I really want is to OC the CPU to 4. something and the ram to 1866 or 2000+ and have a top end rig with Sata 3 and PCI 3 for the new SSD and GPU I bought.

I am a little confused as to why I have got no reply.. plenty of threads on the same topic started after mine have been replied to, Have I missed some crucial detail here? I actually copied the format out of the "how to ask for help on a new build" thread, which I figured would help get a response.

Generally, sometimes when a thread is long, people tend to skip it. I think I answered one of your other ones anyway.

Are you getting not suitable performance in games? The 920 should be pretty good.

Performance in games is ok yeah. Thing is, this system is just over 3 years old and I like to keep thing refreshed. This hardare is still saleable second hand, so rather than wait another 1-2 years and have it die on me I figured I would do the whole thing now.

The 920 will only really clock to 3.6 and a new i7 or i5 will go to 4.5+ added to this the new hardware should work better with my new card and ssd.

Am I barking up the wrong tree here? I have looked at the high end build section of this site and they seem to almost exclusively be Z77 boards and new i7 cores.

Lol, I mean sure you can upgrade your system, but personally I would just look into other things, like food and rent payments (being a college student sucks).

I built my system with the intent of not upgrading for at least 4 years, or at least until I got out of college.

Now, I ended up with like 8 towers. Its almost an addiction. As of my main tower now, it is going to last 5+ years with its current setup.

Upgrading is all about how you like to play your games. Personally, highest possible settings is cool and all, but when I go home, I usually do not take my tower and play on my Intel Celero G530 with a Radeon HD6770. I play for the game, not for the settings.

Some people like to play with all of the eye candy.

It does seem like you already paid though. I would have gone for the second one.

I know what it is like to be a student believe me. I had the worst rig ever for about 7 years because I was poor. I am 30 now and have a job, so I can consider spending on something I like. I have cancelled the other order this morning, no issues there. I have enough money for food and rent 😉 this is coming out of my savings.

Think I might go for the second setup, but with an i5 not the i7, save £100.00
