Good afternoon!

I am looking to buy a new system instead of building one as I have in the past. Having not kept up on the latest and greatest in PC tech, I am seeking the input of those who have kept current. The system will mainly be used for gaming and video editing. I own several Dells that I have gotten for free, but I want to steer clear of proprietary hardware blocking upgrade paths. I have not settled on a price point yet but I am willing to pay to get what I need if the cost is justifiable and I am getting my moneys worth.

I will start with a few simple questions:

1) AMD or Intel for the CPU? I hope not to start a war with this one...lol.

2) Which vendors do you recommend to assemble a custom build?

I appreciate the time anyone takes to bring me up to speed, literately and figuratively...lol.

Thanks again 😀

Solution
well lets say you are on a 1200$ budget, heres what i've came up with:
https://pcpartpicker.com/list/7J9sDx
If you are on a 2000$ budget, heres what i would choose:
https://pcpartpicker.com/list/WFNfQq (the mobo is around 200$)
And yes you should go for AMD.
Ill make it simple for you.
If you are doing ONLY GAMING intel is the king
If you are doing gaming and stuff like video editing, rendering or that type of stuff amd is the king, specificaly their ryzen lineup.

Edit:Why not build it yourself?
There a plenty of good build tutorials especially for a system that you choose+there is a manual for everything and manufacturers really make sure that they guide you to correct assembeling.

I would but I work full time, have family commitments, and am trying to start a side business. I was hoping for something plug and play so to speak, as long as the premium isn't too steep. I don't want to pay $2500 for $2000 worth of parts. I understand a little markup as someone else is assembling the PC but I don't want to be raked over the coals for the sake of convenience.

i get it.
The best of the best is the NZXT.
I would suggest "Streaming PC" for your purposes. It has almost the same core components as my 2000$ build. Its bassically amazing, and i think that the NZXT is literally the best prebuilds you can buy.You also have starter options, but i dont think they will fit your purposes. Here is the Streaming PC:https://www.letsbld.com/streaming-pc
Here are the other options:https://www.letsbld.com/

What about the Alienware Aurora Ryzen R10?

https://www.dell.com/en-us/shop/gam...-edition-r10/spd/alienware-aurora-r10-desktop

Do they suffer from the same proprietary parts issues are regular Dells?

if we are talking about the 950$ Alienware R10 its a little bit overpriced.
The cpu is similar to 9400f in NZXT's starter pc (which is 900$ btw).
NZXT starter pc has 2x8gb 3200mhz ram, while R10 has only 8gb + slower speed at 2933mhz.The gpu is the same in both pcs,the 1660 super. With R10 you get 1tb hdd 7200 rpm drive, while with nzxt you get 512gb ssd.Plus with nzxt you get windows 10 home license, while with R10 you dont get anything. So again,NZXT wins this one. Also NZXT starter pc is way more upgradable than the R10 so yeah, another reason to go NZXT
Sorry for the late response.
