Hey all. Getting ready to build another machine. This will be my 2nd build. First one was in 2003 and man have things changed.

Here is my current build sheet. I was hoping if you could look at it and tell me if all is ok or if there's something that would be better or wouldn't work.

I chosen a Quad Core(Q9550) over the Core 2(E8600) as I know most will run better on the Core 2 but I hope to keep this machine for as long as the current and I think programming will advance to take advanage of the Quads.

MOBO - Intel BOXDP45SG
CPU - Intel Q9550
RAM - CORSAIR XMS3 4GB X 2
PS - Not sure...could you recommend one
VID - SAPPHIRE Radeon HD 4870 1GB
Heatsink - Thermaltake CL-P0114
Case - I'll use my old one.

Mostly what I use is Adobe CS3 and hopefully CS4 and games I use now is Fallout 3, HalfLife 2, FarCry 2(won't play on my current PC) and FSX.

Cheers in advance.

My budget is @$1200CAD. I've pretty much picked out my gear as I listed and linked above...just need to know if what I picked is all compatible or if there is a better substitute?

I should of added that I will be using a 22" monitor running 1680 X 1050.

APPROXIMATE PURCHASE DATE: Today...order is queued up at Newegg.ca

BUDGET RANGE: CAD$1200 Right now my total for what's in the shopping cart is $1,234.10

PARTS NOT REQUIRED: Case, KB, mouse and monitor

PREFERRED WEBSITE(S) FOR PARTS: Newegg.ca NCIX.com and TigerDirect.ca

PARTS PREFERENCES: I would like to use an Intel CPU & Intel mobo with a 24" LCD and full tower case

OVERCLOCKING: No SLI OR CROSSFIRE: Maybe

Yes I have a new 1TB drive and two DVD burners. I'll get a BR when prices drop more.

I'm sticking with Intel. Thanks for the reply though.

The GA-EP45-UD3P fullmetall linked to is a much better motherboard than the Intel one you picked. It will also allow you to save a little money by picking DDR2 RAM.

If you would like to stick with DDR3 (hardly any speed benefit at all with the Core 2 chips), you can get the GA-EP45T-DS3R.

I would recommend a 750W PSU if since you said you may want crossfire in the future.

CORSAIR CMPSU-750TX 750W ATX12V / EPS12V SLI Ready CrossFire Ready 80 PLUS Certified Active PFC Compatible with Core i7 Power Supply - Retail

You can get the Xigmatek Dark Knight for the same price as the cooler that you picked.
