I might overclock the cpu if it runs cool enough.

I didn't know if that ram would work on that motherboard because I couldn't find it on the Abit web sites compatable ram list for that motherboard. Will that ram be compatable with that motherboard anyway?

Originally I was going to use the eVGA 680i motherboard but I've heard that the eVGA 680i motherboards were killing some peoples ram and I also heard that the 680i chipset was causing SATA hard drives data to become corrupt so i changed my plan to the ABIT 975X motherboard instead.

I also changed the ram to the G. Skill 2GB (2 x 1GB) after reading a lot of people getting dead sticks of Corsair XMS2 2GB (2 x 1GB).

My plan for the hard drives was to install Windows XP pro and games on the WD raptor 10Krpm and use the Seagate 7,200rpm drive for data and file storage.

Will I have to merge Windows XP service pack 2 into one installation disk, or can I install Windows XP pro with no service packs and then after its installed install service pack 2?

How low can the resolution on that monitor go? Will it work with old games like Duke Nukem 3d and f15 strike eagle II at resolutions around 320 x 240?

Will this system be a HUGE improvement over the system im using right now?
My system right now is
AMD 2600+ 2.08 Ghz
1GB Ram DDR 333
Nvidia GeForce4 Ti 4600
IBM 80GB 7.200rpm
Maxtor 300GB 7,200rpm
Windows XP Pro SP2

Thanks

Splendid
Are you kidding!?!? Huge improvement? It'll wipe the floor with the paperweight. :D

It took nVidia a month before they admitted the 680i chipset problems & issued a fix on their site. Oh it didn't kill Corsair ram. Just wrong settings in bios. Some reported that they fixed it by clearing cmos. If you have time, go there & see what problems the 680i users are encountering:

http://www.evga.com/community/messageboard/forum.asp?FORUM_ID=26

975/965 is the most stable. They do have some issues, not as severe as 680i's.

All your selected parts are compatible. They're the best possible I could come up with. Oh boy, I'm drooling over it.

Oh yes, you can install original xp, then sp1 & 2. No need to slipstream them onto a cd. Best burn the newest drivers, service packs, etc. on cd's in advance.

Is that the monitor? It needs a dual-link DVI. I believe that means dual dvi connectors.

I'm not sure about the Dell 30". My 19" LCD auto-scales screens to fit all 4 sides. Yep, some games will look stretched. Most new games will support widescreen out of the box. If not, look for patch/update on their sites.

Ditch the Zalman 9500 unless you don't care about noise. It's a good HSF, no doubt, but running it on high setting is tooooo loud. Consider something quieter like another tower. Scythe Ninja with a quieter fan, or a Thermalright Ultra 120, or even a Noctua UH12. If you don't care about noise, then go with a Tuniq Tower if you can find one.....it'll spank the Zalman back into the Stone Age, and for alot less money too.
