Approximate Purchase Date: in 1-2 months; the sooner the better

Budget Range: $800-1000; honestly would like to run an i5 that can drive one of those catleap monitors w/ the 2560 x 1440p resolution; the goal is to run games at that resolution w/ the cheapest possible solution

System Usage from Most to Least Important: gaming, surfing net, movies

Parts Not Required: keyboard, mouse, operating system

Preferred Website(s) for Parts: any; (newegg, amazon. Frys electronics is about 21 miles from me; Microcenter is about 5 miles from me)

Country: USA

Parts Preferences: no preference; honestly whatever is cheapest to run modern games at a decent frame rate at that resolution;

Overclocking: maybe; would like that option eventually; maybe not right away;

SLI or Crossfire: dont know if enough about it. would be cool to jam 2 cards together eventually

Monitor Resolution: 2560 x 1440p

Additional Comments: have windows operating system. can eventually get a decent keyboard and mice. need optical drive. ssd would be preferred for operating system. doesn't need to be 256 gb.
at the end of the day, i am trying to drive one of those catleap monitors, or similar at decent clip for most modern games

Thanks for helping. i am a super noob w/ building computers.

I was looking at other posts, and they were saying that to drive a monitor w/ resolution like tat, I would need either crossfire/sli or gtx 680....is this correct. if so...can you guys suggest a build

For $800 and under a grand SLI/CF is just going to tear into chunks of the budget as one would have to allocate to an enthusiast board and a far beefier, reliable PSU :( Look up the benchmarks for your games online - a single GTX 670 can actually be more than playable for a lot of titles at that resolution but obviously with your budget you can't expect to breeze thru @ that resolution with high AA/AF + ultra every game :p

study the 2560 x 1600 charts

say my budget was 1300, could i comfortably drive a monitor at that resolution on most modern games? which would be cheaper....sli or one of the newer gtx 680/90, or amd cards?

Can you recommend a good 24inch 1080p monitor? also, what would be a good setup w/ this 24 inch monitor at lowest cost, but running most modern games at decent rate?

catleap monitor 2560x1440
gtx 670 2gb windforce card --> unless someone can suggest better

the rest.....i have no clue.....preferrably i5 2500
