ok here is my situation...

I recently had the hard drives in both my laptop and desktop fail... so i am taking this as an opp to build new...

I was wondering if it is possible to use dual 7950 GX2's, and what mb would support the cards?

This has been discussed in 3-4 threads already but I'll give you the short answer...

NO, not right now.... in the future maybe with bios and driver updates.

If they enable it in the future you will need an NForce4 SLI chipset to run these.

Large budget better spent on 2x 7900GTX

Then get Nice SLI MB to match... AMD or Intel the choice is yours

I must disagree with some of the people here as the 7950 is not "expensive rubbish". The 7950 is also a better choice than 2 7900gtx aswell.

2x 7900gtx will cost you around $960 while 1x 7950 will cost you $560 and the difference between the two is not much.

Also, the 7950 does not yes support SLI, but it will do, nVidia have said so. Any motherboard which is SLI compatible will support it.

If you want a system with two 7950 GX2s (I know I'm getting flamed for this), just buy a computer from Falcon Northwest or VoodooPC. They'll be somewhere around 10,000 apiece, so they're not for the faint of wallet.

Just out of curiosity, at what resolution do you game? You'll see the biggest benefits of SLI/Quad-SLI at resolutions of 1600 x 1200 or higher, so the only reason you'll need a system with that much graphics push is if you're going to buy one or two of those 30" Apple Cinema or Dell displays.

it has the potentail to be good. they can put 2 GPUs on 1 card. its been done before. (i think the 7800gt dual. asus??)

unfortunatly its poor performance in non SLi games kill it. the GPUs on the card r underclocked because of the prox of the two GPUs. its one of these products which is made with neither any real thought put into the design prosses.

its a silly product for those with too much money and too few brain cells. either that or a 30" moniter.
