I am building a new rig for gaming/minor video editing and I need opinions on if it's good enough and what I should change

System:
Phanteks Enthoo Pro Case
i7-4790k
Gigabyte G1 Gaming GTX 970
Asrock z97 Extreme 4
Corsair H75 High Performance Liquid Cooler
Hyper X Fury 16GB(2x8) 1866 Mhz CL10
EVGA Supernova 750 G2 80+ Gold PSU
Windows 8.1 64bit
Asus VS248H 24" Monitor
WD Blue 1TB 7200rpm
Samsung 850 Evo 120GB
***Arctic Silver 5 Thermal Paste

Question 1: Anything I need to replace with something better? (always on the same price point)
Question 2: Should I change the i7-4790k + GTX 970 combo with i5-4690k + GTX 980?
Question 3: Is that thermal paste good? Any better?

Overall you can expect superb system performance. This build is circulating a lot at the moment and you can discuss endlessly what is better or not.

A VERY important consideration is the monitor you are playing on as this is the component you spend all your time looking at.

Do you really just want to cheap out here and get a 1080p 60 Hz screen?

It is no longer what gamers aim for, or what they end up settling for. It is merely the most widely spread spec.

The bare minimum I think one should go for with such a mega build is 144Hz on 1080p or higher.

You have put in a 750w PSU (way too much, you need no more than a 550w unit) so I assumed you were going to upgrade to a second 970 sometime?

If not, you can take out the i7 as it has...

If not, you can take out the i7 as it has no edge over the 4690k i5 in gaming especially, dial down the psu and invest in a 144hz monitor.

This will be much nicer than a drab old 60hz unit driven by such a ferrari of a pc.

LG 24GM77 or AOC G2460PQU for 144Hz...

With your system you can drive some serious FPS though and potentially consider G-Sync. It syncs your screens refresh with the GPU's output, so they work in perfect harmony!

The 9 series GPUs have this tech, could be very nice to use it, as it is even better than 144Hz.
