New system not posting on initial power up

I just built a system for my son. I used to do this a lot years ago, but this is my first build in ten years. The CPU fan has power, the two fans in the case have power and the optical drive has power. The mobo is a MSI z87 gaming board. It has a small lighted sign onboard that says "Audio Boost" and that is lighting up. However the mouse, keyboard (plugged into USB 2.0), and monitor (DVI) are not getting signal/power.
The 8pin power is plugged in to the socket next to the CPU. I've reseated the CPU...any other suggestions?

Any beeping sounds while powering up?

What PSU are you using ? Graphics card are you using?

a good resource, there can be many reasons why it's not posting honestly :\

are you hooking the monitor to the on board or the video card?

I'm using the on-board graphics for now, and Corsair 750 PS and there are no beeping sounds at all. Also the HDD LED is not lighting, but is plugged in correctly. Thanks

Make sure the cpu fan is plugged into the cpu fan header. If the board doesn't detect a fan plugged in there then the system will not boot. Also there will not be a beep sound unless you plugged the speaker in when you set the pc up.

The CPU fan is operating and is plugged into CPUFAN1...there is no speaker on the case just headphone output, which is plugged into the correct spot on the mobo...

You may have a dead component. Do you any alternate motherboards you could test the system with?

Well, I'm actually getting a Asus Maximus in the mail tomorrow from Amazon, plus another identical CPU.

This is very irritating...lol

I can see why. Just test the other components on the new motherboard. Make sure to test the components before you install them next time. It will save you the headache of having to take everything apart again. The top of the motherboard box works well for this.

I replaced the motherboard with an Asus Maximus VI Hero. Now I'm on the BIOS screen and everything seems fine. However I've put an OEM Win 7 home Premium dvd in rebooted and it just keeps going back to the BIOS screen. The boot sequence is correct...
My brain hurts...

The DVD player was the problem. I pulled it out and tried it in another computer...it didn't work there either. Bought another one and everything works fine now.
