I'm looking to build a gaming rig, but I'm on a budget so i'm going for the necessities first. I have already a DVD-RW drive which i'll install as well as a HDD with Windows 7. As far as I know, I need a case, a motherboard, RAM, a video card, a CPU cooler and a power supply. If I'm thinking correctly, that should at least give me a working computer. Is there anything I'm forgetting? Also, I have a 350w power supply. If my build only requires 326w, would it be harmful to use the power supply I have?

Solution
parts required:

cpu
cpu cooler
motherboard
ram
hard drive ....you have this already
video card
power supply
case
os ....you have this already

optional:
optical drive ....you have this already
wifi card
soundcard
ssd

i would not use a 350w psu for a 325w build. taking too many chances there and you might hit your limit and exceed the power capabilities of the psu resulting in your system shutting down/crashing. pick out what parts you want to use and then do a 100% cpu load and system load at http://www.extreme.outervision.com/psucalculatorlite.jsp adding in all your parts. take that number and add another 15-20% and that is what size psu you should buy. you could get away with less however this gives you plenty of headroom.
