Hello friends.

I'm a totally new to computers. I've always wanted a good pc to play games and stuff so i decided to shell out my old pc and got a new one configured.
SPECS-

->2.66Ghz, Core 2 Duo E8200
->2GB ram (800mhz)
->Gigabyte nvidia 8600GT
->Gigabyte GA-965P-DS3
->250GB Maxtor HDD

I don't know if i even wrote the specs in the right way, but i just wanted to you guys some idea about my comp. I've been going through the over clocking section for a while (even though i didn't know anything about it...lol), but was scared to do any **** becoz of the following,

1.I was provided with Easytune5 Pro but ended up with crappy info about the core temp. like 30 degree celcius, so tried out the application called "core temp", which says they are around 50-55 degree celcius on idle!!!
2.I downloaded the nvidia monitor from nvidia website and it says that my gpu is 64 degree celcius @ idle!!!

These performance stats really scare the **** out of me and worries me that something mite happen to it if i overclock it... not only that i just have the regualar cooling fan unit which i got along with the pc.
Please help!!!

Thanx in advance.

umm more info....have you bought this already? sounds like it u should have asked us before u bought it tho... i would have changed a few things. look at the intel cpu temp spec sticky....it shows max temp for your processor....did you even get an aftermaket cooler though?? i highly doubt you could get anything above like 100MHz overclock on the stock cooler. and if you wanna do gaming...8600GT? :pfff:

oh i just saw you got the regular cooling fan. mate, seriously even after reading the overclocking forums for 10 minutes you must have come across people discussing aftermarket coolers... i mean theres even a seciton dedicated to it ffs!

more info.

yes sir.... i've a;ready purchased this unit... i did check out the forums before i got this one assembled... infact i wanted to have the 790i motherboard from nvidia and also the 9600gt graphic card... but not available her... i'm and indian settled in qatar, only and only another indian knows how hard it is to get something done from their parents.....whew... i'm not trying to be racist or sarcastic here, but you must understand it is a big deal to even have such a configuration, here....

i haven't come across coolers as of now, will surely check them out...thanx mate.. and expecting some reply.... btw, where do you think i must have some serious changes in the configuration???? :??: ... i seriously don't know **** about computers, so this config just looked amazing after my previous config-1.7ghz p4, 80gb hdd, 256mg ram, 32mb grpahics....how does that sound???? lol 😀 ....

i wouldn't want to change my hdd or ram, and btw, i'am running on xp professional... and there is no ventilation in my room or near the comp(ie an airconditioner)....is that a problem???

lol 790i+9600GT....you really need to do some research LOL
and btw im not dissing your system lol im ashamed to say its faster than mine 🙁

anywho... if you're on a budget get the artic freezer 7 pro: http://www.newegg.com/Product/ProductList.aspx?Submit=ENE&DEPA=0&Description=arctic+freezer+7

or if you want performance that actually beats a fair few water coolers... for a ridiculously low price: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16835233003

your RAM should be ok i guess with xp pro... hard drive is fine err what power supply and case are you using just out of curiosity?

oh and btw dont use easytune LOL... BIOS is much better. so get a new CPU cooler and look at a few overclocking stickies is my advice :)

Hey thanx for the reply dude.... whats wrong if i'm gonna put the 790i and the 9600gt?? seriously mate, i really need to develop my senses on this field.... i don't know about the power supple, but i have an atx case made by orange and i'm using the same power unit that came with it...basically i didn't want to change my power supply since i wasn't getting the 9600gt anyways......

what abt this BIOS? What is that??? its for tweaking the performance??? where do we get this????

i was browsing through temperature guides in tomshardware forums and found out that "real temp" is the most accurate one...in that my cores read 37 degrees each....is that fine???

WTF is with all the 9600GT hate all of a sudden? Its a great budget gaming card. Not everyone can/is willing to shell out for top shelf parts.

nVidia chipsets have not been the enthusiast's choice of late (particularly for Intel processors) due to the fact they dont overclock as well as an Intel branded chipset. The only real advantage an nVidia chipset brings is the ability to SLi your video cards.

Back on topic, I think that so long as your processor stays under say 47-50C you shouldn't have problems, although an Intel guru may want to provide a more accurate range. I would hold off on any overclocking untill you can get your hands on an aftermarket cooler, however even at stock speeds you should be quite happy for now. If it were my call I would look into getting a different video card though. The 8600GT is pretty slow, about the same speed as the 7600GT that proceded it. If you can sell the 8600 and track down an 8800GT or a 3870 at reasonable prices (less than $150-$175 US) or the 9600GT you should be quite happy for a long time.

dude. 9600GT with the fastest tri-sli board in the freaking world! it's like putting a QX7700 with my $50 asrock board! completely unbalanced.

As i've said before, i live in qatar and tigerdirect doesn't ship to qatar and i too don't have anyone living in states or uk. so for now, i'll just have to wait until it becomes a littl echeaper in my country. and as venom had suggested, i bot a arctic freezer 7 for about 43$ through a friend of mine in india. computer is pretty sweet now, and core temps are about 30-34 degree atmost and eventually goes upto39 when playing games liek cod4, assassin's creed,etc. i think dats a great drop.
