New ( used) IDE HDD for laptop

Replacing the HDD for a larger ( hard to find ) HDD, the guys I bought it from , tested it and formatted it for me, and I have bought a lot of stuff from them without ever a problem, most was used. During the boot after installation the post splash screen comes and goes, and then it says "Invalid partition table_" How to I get past this?

IDE is really old. Is that native to your laptop?
