New vs. old DVI cables?

I just built a new computer. On my old computer, whenever I played in HD movie, there would be distortion when in the scene there is a lot of movement. I thought maybe I needed a new computer, so I built a new one.

I have noticed that the distortion is still there when I play HD movies on Netflix and Amazon. Someone mentioned bad DVI cables. I have several DVI cables from 2006; 2 of them are still in the original bag. The 2 fresh cables made the picture better, but there is still a hint of distortion.

My question is: Is there difference in material in DVI cables made last decade and the ones now? Are DVI cables now better and faster than the ones in the past? I've noticed that the old ones are not gold; they are silver. The new DVI cables are gold-plated. I wonder if this has to do the enhanced quality of HD video that the old cables cannot handle?

Aside from any technology change, you'd be surprised to hear just how variable performance can be from cables all claiming the same specifications. Build quality of the cable means more than most people realize especially when it comes to shielding and manufacturing processes.

I'm beginning to think it is my ancient Samsung SyncMaster 226BW since I changed cables and video cards several times.

I actually think it's my monitor now. I have changed the cables and video cards several time. I have a Samsung SyncMaster 226BW. It is old.
