So I got my DOA WS Blue 4TB replaced. Tested the new one in the shop using an external Powersupply, this type:
https://en.aliradar.com/item/327188...nclosure-adapter-ssd-dvd-hdd-box-case-optibay

At the shop it worked well with that external PS, but when I connected it at home to differnet desktop powersupplies, then the drive's motor would restart every few seconds, in an endless loop. I tried this also with the external PS I used at the shop, and it may also happen.

I'm currently testing with a 3rd desktop supply and so far it worked. Is it likely that none of the other 3 PS are strong enough for that drive, and the problem isn't in the drive itself? They are all 400W and up, and when testing I'm making sure no other drive is connected.

Thanks

Those 3 supplies are causing this WD Blue 4T to restart:

The 4th one I tried is rated "550W" and so far (a few hours) the WD disk hasn't restarted, and it's this one:

I don't know if it's a coincidence and the drive -is- defected after all. I don't think any of the above PS's should not be strong enough to drive a single hard disk. The issue occurs even with only connecting the drive directly to the PS's with no other load (i.e mobo) connected

Desktop PSUs require minimum loads on each of their supply rails, otherwise they don't regulate very well. If you monitor the +12V and +5V outputs, you will probably find that one or both are way out of spec. The drive would monitor these supplies and reset itself if either goes out of spec. This is most likely to happen when the drive's motor starts to draw power.

That external PSU is also known for its poor regulation (I have two similar units).

Thanks, so in general, I should make sure that all power rails are connected to a peripheral? what if I only have one hard drive and 5 rails? to keep the PS fully "loaded"? It's the first time I'm coming across such an issue with internal desktop power supplies...
