Hello
My family and I are using the bt home hub 5 with some bt package (maybe infinity but I'm not sure) and it seems to have spurs of doing absolutely awfully where it will suddenly go super slowly, it sometimes goes over 3000ms ping in games such as overwatch and I'm not exaggerating it's awful at times and it's got really bad in the last week.
I read up online and some people seem to be having alot more luck with a different router, maybe ours has died from old age or something
I've heard the TP-Link’s AC1200 is a good choice for its price, I'm looking for a router that is good and below £50 and also since people in my house do lots of things at once like someone will be watching Netflix another on YouTube it just makes the WiFi go dreadfully slow, Im not sure if a router can fix this an if it can't please feel free to give me advice.
Thanks for reading this :) and thanks for the advice

Most likely not. It has to have the hardware, and if it did, you'd know. What might be possible is to switch to a different band, one that's less crowded. It may well not help much, but it's worth a shot.

If you have a smartphone, one thing to try first would be to get a wifi analyzer. The problem may be interference, and the solution may be simply switching the channels you're using. You might also try to identify the devices you're using, and whether something else is causing you problems...like a wireless phone system. The old ones use 2.4 GHz.

If your lucky enough to have the router in the same room as you, I would just plug my Ethernet cable straight in and boom you have gigabit connection...( if your computer has the port.) Wi-Fi just plane sucks for gaming because the signal can drop or fluctuate causing lag and high pings.

Well, i have this weird thing going on, I'm a fair distance from my hub im→in
I'm
is

and it has to go through a thick wall... I have a Netgear wifi range extender but its in my room so I doubt it really makes a difference that closes since I could just directly connect but this is a quite newly built pc and I didn't put a wifi module in it because I knew that id be able to connect it directly via ethernet from the range extender (though unfortunately not the hub). As far as my knowledge goes I cant just stick the router in my room without rerouting cables through the wall and that certainly isn't an option. I'm essentially using wifi even though I'm connected via ethernet if that makes sense.
Either way thanks for the advice.

WiFi can, as was said, also just be a pain. I was streaming the WSOP coverage quite a bit, on WiFi...and it worked great...then froze for a bit...worked great...froze. Most irritating. Ultimately bought a cable to go from my switch to the living room PC.

But if you can, I'd also test the wireless environment. Free wireless analyzer apps are pretty easy to find for Android, and presumably iOS.

I tried that WiFi analyser you guys suggested and although my router is on a dogey 2.5ghz channel it's 5ghz channel is fine but then I noticed... The bthub5shwx-ext was only showing up on the 2.5ghz band and that's what I'm connected too... Is there any way to activate it with the faster 5ghz band? It's a WiFi range extender by netgear
