hello everyone so I wanted to start off with saying that my PC haven't had any problem for the past good 5 months or even more but this new update for window that took almost an hour and my PC turning off and on...I think it destroyed my PC. The reason being is that after the update everything became slow and when I try doing something it would freeze.....and sometimes shows the BSOD which is really annoying because this PC was built December 08, 2015......I even tried uninstalling the update but this didn't help...can someone help me with the lag and the BSOD? I even updated my motherboard, GPU...Is there any good free anti virus scanners???Maybe its a virus.....
Also, I tried refreshing my PC with the window 8.1 cd i had but it said i needed to unlock the drive....and how come when i tried the window defender scanner it said i needed an administrator when im the one who built it?

I can't guarantee you not get BSOD, you might get different ones. It could also be fine.

You might find that your win 8.1 key won't work. A fresh install of win on a drive that has had dban run on it should work just as well as 8.1. The problem could be old drivers that have newer versions now.
On another PC, download the Windows 10 media creation tool and use it to make a win 10 installer on USB << more useful to you than a win 8 DVD

windows works but its laggy? If win 10 doesn't work right, use this to copy files off C you don't want to lose: http://www.howtogeek.com/howto/windows-vista/use-ubuntu-live-cd-to-backup-files-from-your-dead-windows-computer/

Laggy and BSOD makes me think its just a bad driver but its hard to tell without knowing what BSOD it is. There is more than one type. more than I have ever seen in fact (about 255 codes)

think you might be best trying a reset
if win 10 lets you get to settings, go to settings/update & security/recovery/reset this PC
2 choices, keep files and settings (I would do this) or wipe it all
either choice, win 10 will restart and reinstall itself

if you cannot get into win 10, use the USB above
change boot order so USB is first, hdd second
boot from installer
on screen after languages, choose repair this pc, not install.
choose reset this PC
same choices as above

if windows says its locked again, try the options on thsi page: http://www.thewindowsclub.com/the-drive-where-windows-is-installed-is-locked - they all use the choices in the repair menu on USB installer

If none of this works, use that USB with Win 10 on it and do a fresh install. Make sure everything you want to save off hdd is backed up as win 10 may want to reformat drive during install though with 8.1 you should be okay as you already on GPT
Boot from USB and follow this - it should answer all your questions: http://www.tenforums.com/tutorials/1950-windows-10-clean-install.html

Hope that helps :)

Well i forgot to say that i updated it from 8.1 to window 10. The BSOD is sometimes critical cpu or storage.. and this problem happened after the update.... This cant be a virus right? the lag is just window...maybe?
Also i tried the going to setting and do the reset...it says "there was a problem resetting your pc"
So i think the best bet for me is to try to "unlock my drive and refresh it" or fresh install it...like what you said..The howtogeek website.....is it like another computer in my computer???like a VMachine

critical CPU? you mean critical process died?

most bsod caused by drivers. If PC was fine before update, then its likely a driver updated that caused it.

is what vmware? all the commands on the howtogeek page are windows commands, You probably need to do step 3
if that doesn't work, use ubuntu to copy anything off drive you want to save, and just fresh install win 10.

i have a question....do i update drivers for windows 10 or windows 8.1??because i did the upgrade window 10 for free...sooo am i suppose to update for window 10 or 8.1.. xD

ah okay...and i tried using the window 10 media creator...it was very weird...i think my pc wasn't recognizing window 10 or something...it had different options when i put the USB to my pc....it showed me only 1 option (reset i think) and advance when window 8.1 (cd) showed me two option (refresh and reset)...and it was saying i had two windows when i put the commands (bootrec /scanos and bootrec /rebuildRCD)
Is there any other way...where i can like uninstall the current update for windows?

Also the most code the BSOD shows me is critical process died, storage...and memory....(don't know the full names)
Is there a way i can remove BSOD complete without a fresh install? tried searching on google and youtube....didn't help at all

We could fix errors if you could get into win 10. And it let you run anything

That advanced menu is pretty useful

if you have another PC, download who crashed http://www.resplendence.com/whocrashed and install it on the PC with problems.
try run a report - if it won't let you, we try safe mode.

If you need to run it in safe mode, here is how to get there:
boot from installer, on 2nd screen after languages, choose repair this pc, not install
choose troubleshoot
choose advanced
choose start up options
hit the restart button
choose a safe mode (it doesn't matter which) by using number associated with it.
PC will restart and load safe mode
open who crashed and run the report - if PC lets you in here and works fine, the problem is drivers alright. Might want to check device manager while you here

Take a screen shot of who crashed (Might need to take a photo). and share it here.

Sometimes the Start up options menu isn't there and I cry... if safe mode doesn't work, its hard to see what errors are.

critical process died could stop you logging into windows 10 if the process that died is csrss, exe. This is possible after an update. Safe mode may not work if its csrss.exe that is crashing as its essential for win 10 and PC cannot work without it. Another favorite is NTOSKRNL, and either not working means win 10 isn't going to work either.

I not sure what storage error you getting

Memory Management (I assume) is ram or drivers. run http://www.memtest86.com/ on your ram sticks.

last two errors might mean its ram or hdd to blame. Its just a guess but I don't know of any storage BSOD codes off top of head (there are about 255, I don't know them all).

see if you can find the storage one on this short (lol) list: http://pcsupport.about.com/od/error-codes/fl/bsod-error-codes.htm

I feel like reinstalling but the problem would be that i have to back up everything...or....when you click install (in the window driver window 8.1 cd) cant you delete the 100MB and reinstall window 8 without deleting anything but windows?? if that makes sense....
Also i will try to do the safe mode thingy... but BTW csrss.exe is the thing you put into run to open it right? or was it something else?

P.S my pc works fine but now and then pc goes "stupid" (watching my language) mode.....so yea

I don't know about 100mb as win 8 wouldn't fit in that little space. what I think you mean is delete the C partition and then install win 8 there.

This would work for 10 too since you had 8 on it before. If you had win 7 on drive before, that wouldn't work as win 10 would want to delete everything on hdd to continue. But you had win 8 so if you run a custom install of win 10, you can simply delete the C drive and reinstall win 10 in its place.

You will still need to reinstall all your programs tho as Windows 10 won't know they are there.

but BTW csrss.exe is the thing you put into run to open it right? or was it something else?

I think csrss controls logins so there is still chance safe mode won't work either.

The problem is i dont have a window 10 key...only for 8.1..so can i like just install 8.1 and upgrade window 10??(free)

hey i try using the program but it said..that theres no error or anything.

When you upgraded win 8.1 to win 10, and kept win 10 on PC for more than 1 month, it converted your key into a win 10 key, If you install win 10 on that PC ever again, and get to page in installer asking for a licence, you click "I don't have a key" and it will auto activate. when you first installed win 10 your PC recieved a Digital Entitlement to always have win 10 installed on it again. After you have win 10 installed, the PC will check a server to see if your PC is eligible for win 10 and as its details should be on there, it will auto activate.

its one less thing to worry about. you only need to know licence key if its a new licence, and then only when you register. After that its all handled by servers.

Hm..i see well i dont really want to do that much....tbh so should i install Dban and just uninstall everything and install 8.1....(dont want the sigh on the bottom right)

Also if i do that Dban thing....i can i not have anymore problems in the future???like BSOD and ETc...

Also every game i play now i get like 50 fps when long time ago i use to get like 70+??
Is it my storage?

I can't guarantee you not get BSOD, you might get different ones. It could also be fine.

You might find that your win 8.1 key won't work. A fresh install of win on a drive that has had dban run on it should work just as well as 8.1. The problem could be old drivers that have newer versions now.
