Architecture is everything and both the current gen consoles are pretty similar in some ways and vastly different in other ways, the PS3 especially.

More on topic, has the quality of electronics fallen to the point that we judge them based on how easy they are to repair? I think I would rather have one that doesn't break in the first place.

The ability to repair and upgrade a PC was one of the defining traits of a great system back in the late 70s and early 80s. It was the ability to upgrade and repair the PC and Commodore 64 which gave them such a great stride over many competitors (including my own Atari 1200XL PC which could not be upgraded in any way). Every real teach enthusiast should be concerned about this. Instead of just wanting everything to come to you in a shiny package that you toss in the trash in six months.....

SERIOUSLY? The fact that the way you plug PCBs together looks vaguely similar has NOTHING to do with the hardware. You basically going "it looks like a citcuit board with plugs".... Every circuit board looks like that. Xbox 360 architecture is ENTIRELY different from x86. They were not remotely compatible

Technically you CAN upgrade your current-gen HDD with a faster one or an SSD. So consoles are at least in one way upgradeable. Some games really benefit from a faster disk.

I would rather take electronic gadget I can mod easily. There are plenty of mods you can apply to current consoles. Proper, ethical or unnecessary is the question DYI type of people usually have to face.

You listed all the negatives and non of the positives -- Bias post is bias.

The upgrade ability and variation of hardware in PCs also means you have to develop at a higher level. With fixed hardware & exact specs you can develop for purely 64-bit, high memory and on the hardware level. This is versus having to develop to support BOTH the few high end gamers and the throngs of out-of-date 32-bit dual core with 4gb of ram gamers, meaning compromise. So that's supporting low end hardware& low minimum specs, as well as not being able to use all kinds of hardware level optimizations.

I love a lot of games that are PC only, and certainly some of the best genre are only on PC.. But I don't believe gaming systems are just all downside. I'll definitely be watching out come deal season.

Wow, that is a super simplified console. I thought the picture with all the parts was leaving a bunch of ribbons and screws and such out, but nope, that's all the parts.

Compared to opening a fat PS2 (very complicated getting to the mobo on most models and installing a 23-wire modchip was nightmarish) or even the original model 360 this is easy and quick as hell.

Um, no. I grew up playing Pong if you are old enough to remember that. And what we are discussing is a Xbox 360 console, not a PC. A 360 is not something the average person can open up, diagnose and get parts for like a PC is. Plus when you build a PC, it's a given that the user has a certain amount of knowledge about building a PC, when someone buys a console, it's sort of expected that it will work for a while at least before sending it off for RROD or something similar. While all things are repairable at a certain level, I doubt many people buy consumer electronics based on how easy it is to take apart.

Not that's completely not what they expecting/saying. Stop trying to apply your own bias to a statement made by a company that disassembles every electronic device that they can get their hands on.
