More on topic, has the quality of electronics fallen to the point that we judge them based on how easy they are to repair? I think I would rather have one that doesn't break in the first place.

The ability to repair and upgrade a PC was one of the defining traits of a great system back in the late 70s and early 80s. It was the ability to upgrade and repair the PC and Commodore 64 which gave them such a great stride over many competitors (including my own Atari 1200XL PC which could not be upgraded in any way). Every real teach enthusiast should be concerned about this. Instead of just wanting everything to come to you in a shiny package that you toss in the trash in six months.....
