Hi all, I have a Pc with the following specs :

-MSI Z170A KRAIT GAMING 3X
- i5 6600K
- 2x 8GB RAM 2400MHZ DDR4 AVEXIR
- NVIDIA GEFORCE GTX 1070 ARMORC OC 8GB
- COOLER MASTER G550 M 80+

What should I update to last until 2022 with ultra setting on 1080p minimum ? (1440p would be better).

Please note that I know right now my PC is still very powerfull. What I would like to do is to resell some of my pieces before June to upgrade it without spending too much (for example upgrade motherboard+gpu+cpu). Thx a lot for your advices !

Solution
i think your best bet would be selling your mobo + cpu and upgrading that. new i5/i7 would be a nice boost for ya. if youre not a "team intel guy" you could wait for the Ryzen 3000 series. Some of those should be impressive.

Your 1070 could also be sold and traded up for a 2060. if you had a 1070ti, id say dont bother, but youll see decent returns on the 2060 from what i can tell.

If it was me id sell the MoBo, CPU, and RAM and get new ones of those. Something in the 3000mhz range on ram and a newer processor.

thx for this first answer Franklin. What would you recommand for motherboard + CPU without exceeding 350$ ? And yes,I would prefer stay on Intel ;) For the gpu i wont go for a 2060 > I prefer find a big opportunity on a 1080 or save for later to buy a 2070.

ooh sorry about that mobo suggestion, asrock fatal1ty is nice but i forgot b360s dont overclock (b350s on amd do, the platform im more familiar with). but that i5 is still a killer deal. looking for a better mobo option now

I always have a really hard time recommending open box stuff, especially motherboards. Places like Newegg, Frys, etc are always quick to restock returned items without really checking them and they could have something broken or bent. I would exercise caution with buying this kind of thing. When you buy open box, you buy at your own risk, and if you break it, you bought it.

As far as suggestions go, I would look at upgrading that power supply if you want to do any future CPU / GPU upgrading. Get a Seasonic or higher end EVGA unit.

I would change your thinking.

So long as your pc is doing the job, keep it unchanged.
New parts are constantly launched, and often at better price/performance than their predecessors.

How would you feel if you bought today's 9th gen processor only to find out a year from now that 10th gen 7mm processors are available at a lower price?
By buying before you need the upgrade you may regret your premature action.

If you have not already overclocked your 6600K, learn how.
As of 12/04/2016
What percent can get an overclock at a somewhat sane 1.40v Vcore.

I5-6600K

4.9 14%
4.8 38%
4.7 67%
4.6 87%

If you will need a graphics upgrade, you likely want a psu stronger than 550w.
Coolermaster quality is variable so you might want something like a Seasonic focus 650w unit.

Actually I'm in France so VAT + shipping too expensive haha. Thx a lot anyway. Here I can have a "good deal" on a well known website for PCs parts. I can get an Intel Core i5-8400 + MSI B360 GAMING PLUS for 280 € (~315 $). What do you think ?

Thx a lot for your answer. Actually I have already overcloked my computer @4.6ghz stable (4.7 sometimes unstable on witcher 3). Ram is boosted @2666 mhz (vs 2400 origin). I have some crashes sometimes (blue screen) and I was thinking about a psu issue cause it happens when I give a too high boost to GPU (through afterburner) +CPU. You're right I could stay about 2 years more on this material especially only playing @1080p. But I wanted to find the right balance between upgrade and getting a good price reselling my parts.
