Newb GPU/display question

So I've done quite a bit of a research and am stikll left with a couple questions. I'd appreciate some experience and knowledge. I have a GTX 1080 that I'm using with a Samsung 34" ultrawide display with a 100hz refresh rate freesync, and 1440p. I also I have a dell 27" gaming monitor with a 144hz refresh rate and gsync. I love using my UWD but want to be able to utilize the higher refresh rate of the other monitor and gsync. I have a friend with an AMD R9 390x. Would it be worth it.to change to this card to utilize freesync? Does freesync make that much of a difference?

The GTX 1080 is about twice as powerful as an R9 390X. Not worth changing.
