Hi guys. This is my first build. I'm putting together an i5 750. My question is, and please explain this like I'm a 4 year old, will the stock cooling/heatsink/fans be enough, or do you recommend something more. If so, then what should I use. I plan on OC'ing at some point.

These are my parts.

CPU: i5 750

Case: Storm Scout

PSU: Corsair 650HX

GPU: Sapphire HD 5850

RAM: Gskill ECO 1600 7-8-7

HDD: Samsung Spinpoint f3 500GB

OS: Win7-64

Play with it once it's built. Do that first. Learn about temps using things like HW monitor, loading the CPU with Prime 95, start reading many forums and FAQS about overclocking.

No need to buy a $50+ CPU cooler just yet. Stick with the stock CPU cooler till your ready and able to overclock. It's a lot more complicated than pushing a button. Even using theremal paste properly needs to be understood.

In 2-6 months you'll be comfortable with your knowledge to begin to look for a new heatsink and know a bit about overclocking. Reading this forum and the CPU forum every day and following links provided you'll have a good idea of what to do once your ready.

If you need 4th grade explaining, you need to move up a few grade levels in your knowledge before attempting this.

Yes, do the reading and check out the guides...but if you are able to build your own computer you should be able to add an after market cooler. IF you know you are going to do it eventually you might as well do it when you build the thing since you will have to remove the MB to do it later. I recommend this

Hear is a google search with tons of links on how to apply the thermal paste
" how to apply thermal paste to heatsink " do that and then happy reading and viewing!

Thanks for the response bud. I find explaining things in the simplest form possible, tends to work best for everyone. This is my first build, so while I've swapped out parts in PC's, I'm certainly green around the edges.

BTW, I saw someone in another thread mention that the stock fan will usually have thermal paste already on it. Is that right? Do I need thermal ocmpound then? Personally, I'd prefer to put it on myself either way. What say you? Again, thanks for your help!

Stock heatsinks come with a paste on the cooler. You peel the sticker off and mount it. It's good enuff for stock. If you buy your own paste it's best you read up and find you tube vids on how it's done. Here is a real professional review of pretty much the top thermal pastes. Don't even consider Indigo if your new.

Myself? I use MX-2. I also been at this a while, ohh 15 years or ++. It's not rocket science by any means but until you build your first PC it's best to keep it as simple as possible. Getting complicated and your first build can just create problems. Believe me, you'll have enuff issues if it's your first time for sure.
