We bought a new desk last week, and my wife said that she doesn't want my big clunky 19" monitor going on it, so she said that I could buy a LCD flat panel. Woot! We ended up getting a Mag 17.1" viewable LCD monitor at best buy for $400. This one has speakers even (Though they don't sound the greatest. Not too worried about that though).

What I am wondering though is, the guy at best buy almost had us convinced to get the 3 year service plan for $50 bucks. He was trying to convice us that the bulb in the monitor will probably go out at least once in the next 3 years. Anyone have any knowledge or experience with these kind of monitors to give me info on this? I was hesitant to believe him because my 19" CRT monitor I have had for almost 5 years, and it even went through a fire with pretty good smoke damage, and I have never had anything go wrong on it. Was he just blowing smoke up my ass to get me to spend the extra 50 bucks?

Also, I loaded up Medal of honor, and noticed that when I am moving around a lot in game, the images appear slightly blury. Is this normal for LCD monitors and gaming?

And finally, we were deciding between the Mag and a Samsung monitor (the 171v I believe. or 171b. I can't remember). They were the same price, except the Mag one has build in speakers. Anyone heard anything good or bad about either of these? I have 30 days to return the Mag if I want.

Thanks!

first of all don't ever buy from "Bust Bye". The people who work there have no idea what they are talking about and all they do is just take advantage of people who actually shop there. If you want a good advice you are better off in forums like this one.

The LCD monitor you picked up has 25 ms response rate, for gaming or DVD viewing it's not recommended. There are other 17 inch panels available (search the forum) that are priced $100 more, but you will have blurness free expirience when playing games... good luck

Most manufactures provide a 3 year warranty including the backlight, you don’t need a premium warranty to cover the backlight.

No need for the extended warranty imo- as stated previously manufacturers often provide sufficient waranty and in the worst case u can replace backlight, it's not that hard (I've done it).

I know how it works 'cause i worked in that envirement before. Managers put some pressure on associates to sell these waranties. These associates are actually more intersted in selling the waranty than selling you the monitor that's right for you. i think that's a good enough reason NOT to buys at thes places. Watch out for Staples too. It's hilarious how they just don'T know what they are talking about. They'll actually sell you a printer that's under 100$(Can) because they know they have a better chance of selling the waranty that's only 7$.

For the monitor, I agree that you should pay 100$ more for a 16ms monitor. Check our the NEC 1670 series...
