Just started putting together my motherboard, but did it on top of my box and plastic bag that it came in. Watched a youtube video that said that I shouldn't do it on top of the static bag!!! Now I'm worried that I have a dead motherboard. 🙁 Should I worry and return it or should I continue the build and see what happens and risk running out my return window?

Solution
Yes, exactly. You don't have to install the Motherboard and all that inside your case though. You can test boot it while it's still ontop of the box the Motherboard came in, without the bag of course. :)

You want to install

-CPU
-CPU cooler
-RAM (1 stick is enough)
-Depending on if you have integrated graphics, you may not need to install a GPU
-PSU

And you're golden. If everything checks out, continue building. There are plenty of tutorials which use this technique. May be worth researching it, as I won't be held responsible if something goes wrong. 🙂

If you're really worried, then try to get a replacement right away, completely up to you.

RMA to the manufacturer?
