Newbie question: supporting the wrong order

Hi--

Does a support order for a hold have any meaning when the unit
supported is moving? What if the moving unit is in a stand-off and
thus does not move?

For instance:

France
-------
A Bur-Par

Italy
--------
A Mar S Bur

Germany
----------
A Pic-Par
A Ruh-Bur
A Mun S Ruh-Bur

What happens? My guess is that the support of Gas means that all
units hold, but it seems weird because Gas is supporting an order that
is not executed by the Bur unit. Thus, a support order can be
meaningful even if the unit doesn't so what the support asked for. Is
that right?

Thanks,
Saurabh

A support order to hold is not effective as a support of a unit ordered to
move, whether the movement is successful or not.

Sorry. To complete the answer, Bur is dislodged, and if no other units are
around, it may retreat to Bel or Gas (Since though you said Gas in your
discussion, the unit is listed in Mar. If you really meant for the unit to
be in Gas, a retreat to Bel or Mar would be permissible.)
