I have two desktops pcs and a notebook. I also have a cable modem. In order to set up a 802.11 G home network. I've decided on Linksys and I think I need the following:
Linksys wireless router WRT54G 4P
Linksys wireless PCI card
Linksys wireless PC card

My cable modem is located immediately beside my "main" desktop Pc.

Do I need a wireless access point in addition to the router listed above?
Do I only need a PCI card for the one pc that is not close to the cable modem and router? I'm hoping I can use a short cable for the pc that is close to the router and modem.

Sorry to ask such basic questions but I'm away for a couple of days and would like to buy this gear as soon as I get back!

Thanks much for any help.

You do not need an access point, your wireless router acts as one (plus it's a router). Use a short cable for the PC that's close, and plug it into the router.

You can use a wired connection from your wireless router to your main computer if your wireless router has wired ports.
Otherwise you should be fine and as stated above, you won't need the AP because the router will do the work unless you go out of the router's range.
