I received the Civ III Complete for Christmas, looks to be a great game,
I've only read about 1/4 of the manual but had to try the game out anyway.
When I started I choose the Persian and then again I tried the Greek. On the
first move I found I had about 5 or 6 Emperors and the same amount of
fighters. Is that normal? Are they to be used to found cities? I know, I
know RTFM. I tell my wife that all the time and have gone back to it, but
was wondering about numerous Emperors. Thanks for any info, and what do you
recommend to a rookie in addition to the manual on getting started?

As Tsar Tasha said, you have mass regicide turned on which is not one of the
default game options.

If you are just learning, Vanilla Civ3 and PTW have a Tutorial that is
hopefully included in the Complete manual. I don't think Conquests has a
tutorial.

Also, when you atart a new game, make sure you click on 'Default Game Rules'
on the second setup screen. The special game modes will only serve to
confuse you.

Sounds like you are playing a game with Mass Regicide turned on. In a game
with that setting, you will loose if all those "Emperors" as you call them
are killed. But the reverse is also true. Kill their king units and you
win...

Use settlers, which you have to build, in order to found new cities....

RTFM that a good suggestion, I'll have to do that sometime. Thanks for the
tip... :)

Who here RsTFM anyway (as a whole from cover to cover)? It's not like your
going to break anything or royally screw things up. Unlike that water tower
model for my train layout back in elementary school when I started gluing
crossbeams without reading directions. Now that was a disaster..... :)

Yup I did check that box on mass regicide, thanks for the help. And those
guys were good fighters, they kept getting ambushed and KO'd the attackers
quickly. Haven't found the tutorial yet. But through trial and error I'm
starting to get the hang of it. Thanks again, I'll probably have more
questions this weekend, since it's the only project I've got lined up.
