In the program folder is another called \Saves
Civ3\Saves
Civ3\Civ3PTW\Saves
Civ3\Conquests\Saves
They are in there. Just delete them with windows explorer.

A good trick that someone on this NG posted was to put a shortcut to the
save games file onto your desktop.
Then it's just a matter of double clicking it.

I cleaned it up last night and saved the posting from'The Stare' for future
use. My desk top is fairly clutter as it is, thank you .

Here is an alternative possibility. If you are comfortable with Windows
Explorer (assuming you ARE on Windows and not a Mac), find the .ini file
for Civilization. It will be in the following locations where X:\<path>
refers to the original installation directory where you put Civ3.


Vanilla Civ3: X:\<path>\Civilization3.ini
Play The World: X:\<path>\CIV3PTW\ptw.ini
Conquests: X:\<path>\Conquests\conquests.ini

You have to have started up each at least once and begun a new game for
the file to exist. Once you've found the .ini files, add the following
line to each:

WindowsFileBox=1

It may already exist, but have a value of 0. If that is the case, just
change it to a 1. Save the file, and now whenever you either open or
save a game, you'll be presented a standard Windows file selection box.
Within that box you can right-click and delete files just as you can
with any application.

One twitchy thing I've noticed (and I think it was someone in here that
pointed out what the issue is quite awhile ago) is that if I accidently
double click too rapidly on "open" at the main menu, the Windows file
selection box doesn't seem to appear. In fact, it has appeared, but the
rapid double click brought the main menu of the game back to the front.
Just ALT-TAB and select the windows file selection box to bring it to
the foreground again. This doesn't happen nearly as often in Conquests
as it did in Vanilla and PTW.

Of course, it should go without saying, be sure the games are not
running when you edit these files.

I first created a shortcut to the saved folder. When I want to clean
it out, I just click on the shortcut and delete everything.

Lately, I have taken to a different method not requiring a cleaning
out. Each time I begin a game, i save it as "100" which creates
"100.sav" Then when I play, I save the games as 101.sav. I have gone
as high as 103. When I start a new game, I just save it as 100, and
101. That gives me a clean slate in little effort and I never have to
clean out the saved folder.

The Automatic Saves folder is self cleaning.

This is C3Conq.

I changed the way I save games. When I start a new game, Before I
make a move, I save the year 4000 BC as 100.sav. Then as I play, I
periodically save the game as 101.sav. On occasions, I save before
trying something stupid, like attacking my beloved neighbor, as
102.sav. If I have a problem I can at least go back to my 101 or 102
sav. When I start a new game, I overwrite the 100.sav, the 101.sav
and/or the 102.sav. Sometimes I save 4000 BC in all three saves.

I Haven't had to clear out my saved games since then and I don't get
confused. If I want to restart a game, I go back to 100, if I start
over after having come back to a game, it is always 101, and if I just
want to back up a few years, it is 102.
