Hi there

I've an Newbie Question.

I've enchanted an creature with an Spirit link. The creature has a power of
5.

It Attacks and gets blocked by a creature with toughness of 3.
So does I gain 3 oder 5 lifes?

Five. Spirit Link doesn't limit the life you gain by the toughness
of the creature damaged, and a creature in combat deals its power
in damage--the blocker's toughness has nothing to do with it.
The blocker now has 5 damage on it; there's nothing illegal
about that. It will, of course die, since it has more than
the 3 damage required to kill it, but there's nothing wrong
with the fact that it has 5 damage on it for the short time
it lives before state-based effects destroy it.

Spirit Link {W} Enchant Creature
/ Whenever enchanted creature deals damage, you gain that much life.

Creatures in combat deal damage equal to their power, so in this case
the enchanted creature will deal 5 damage. This will trigger Spirit
Link and when that resolves, you will gain 5 life. It only cares about
how much damage was dealt.

Creatures deal damage in combat equal to their power. It deals 5
damage, and you'll end up gaining 5 life. The fact that it only would
have taken 3 to kill the blocking creature doesn't matter—you can
overkill things just fine.

The attacker is dealing 5 damage to the blocker; Spirit Link triggers, and if
none of the damage got prevented will later give you 5 life.

The toughness of the blocker makes no difference in how much damage you can
-deal to- it. It just makes a difference in how much damage the blocker can
-survive- having dealt to it. "Over-squishing" a creature is perfectly legal.

You will gain five life. Your attacker will deal 5 damage even though
only 3 damage is needed to kill the blocker.
