Don't bother with those package deals, you can save money and get better parts buying individually.

Change to this RAM: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820231335 its cheaper and performs just as well.

This case, http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16811119197&cm_re=haf_922-_-11-119-197-_-Product is virtually the same as the 932, but a good bit cheaper.

This PSU, http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817371015&cm_re=ea650-_-17-371-015-_-Product is better quality, has more than enough power for you, and is a steal right now with the rebate.

Faster HDD, http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16822152185&Tpk=f3%20spinpoint%201tb

CPU and Motherboard are both great.

Fyi, that HD5770 IS a gaming GPU... I would suggest something in the Quadro FX series, this would be a solid choice, http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814133208&cm_re=quadro_fx-_-14-133-208-_-Product

Why not get windows 7 Premium OEM. It's $110 on newegg.ca

No need for thermal paste if you're not overclocking.

Read up on CUDA. Then get a GPU with it, like the quadro trans linked (though to be honest a 9800gtx+ would works just as well for cheaper, thanks to workstation card price premium fail).

thanks transmaniacon - at least I got the mainparts right! - but this was the easy part any left over $$ i'll put to the quadro graphics card (they are so expensive!) but I think an i7 can handle it pretty well on its own

ok - my build is getting to the upper range of my budget so what do you think of this?
PNY VCGGTS2501XPB GeForce GTS 250 1GB 256-bit GDDR3 PCI Express 2.0 x16 HDCP
or this
GIGABYTE GV-N250-1GI GeForce GTS 250 1GB 256-bit GDDR3 PCI Express 2.0 x16 HDCP Ready SLI Support Video Card

both are about $140

and i'll CUDA it up ( i only picked these two for the 1 gb ram and cause i've heard of the brands before
I've also added a kingston solid state drive $140

there seems to be so may options its hard to compare plus a lot of brands i've never heard of, but i think 1gb ram is ok no?
