Hi guys, im running a fairly old pc -

  • - Intel I7 920 clocked to 3.6ghz
    - ASUS GTX 480
    - 8GB Corsair ddr3 ram
    - 850W Corsair PSU
I'm having huge temperature problems lately, the graphics card is hitting 106 degrees no matter what I play in a matter of minutes (fans all 100%), if I forget fans at all it switches the pc off. Running Real Temp while I play I sometimes see Core 1 and 2 "LOG".

The first thing I did was out with the stock CPU cooler and in with a closed loop that has a fan and radiator currently on the back of the case. Still, its getting to 80/90 degrees celsius when I play.

Tomorrow I'm replacing the old graphics card with a MSI 660 Twin Frozr to hopefully resolve that heat issue,

is there any chance that drastic GPU temp drop will help the CPU temp out?
What can I do to keep things in this pc cool and happy

For the graphics card, remove the heatsink and fan, clean out any dust etc, while its off clean off all the old thermal paste and reapply new paste ( i recommend Arctic MX-4), then re assemble the graphics card.

I suggest doing the same for the CPU +heatsink. Did you make sure you cleaned off all the old thermal paste and applied new when you got the liquid cooler?
