[SOLVED] Newbie to overclocking RAM

I tried researching this first but I've never done it before so I want to be sure. I am trying to get 16GB Flare X RAM running at its advertised spec of 3200Mhz C14. I am using an X470 Taichi with a 3700X CPU. The XMP for this memory can be set in the BIOS without trouble, but when I play a game for about five minutes there is a BSOD (WHEA UNCORRECTABLE ERROR). There is no BSOD with the XMP disabled. The memory sticks are in the A2 and B2 slots. Are there any suggestions on what is best to try next?

Overclocking, by definition, is working outside the guaranteed specs. You may not be able to achieve that speed. The CPU, motherboard, and DRAM must all support the speed you are trying to achieve. Just because it is advertised as 3200 doesn't mean it can actually run that fast. That's why it's followed by "O.C." in the specs.If it was guaranteed it wouldn't be overclocking.

Have you tried using the DRAM Calculator for Ryzen and Thaiphoon Burner to get settings to try.
If not I would suggest you use them.

You might be able to get your RAM to run at 3200 MHz but with slightly higher timings and higher DRAM voltage.

I ended up using a combination of some safe timings and some fast timings to get my RAM stable at 3400 MHz with my Ryzen 5 2600 OC'd to 4 GHz.

I put in all the timings except for the CAD Bus Block the calculator provided. I didn't have the exact options listed (had setup and strength, didn't know which to choose) so left that at auto. It lasted a while and when I was typing this post to indicate success I got the BSOD.
There are two option screens in the Cad bus section: Timing User Controls (with names like AddrCmdSetup) and Drive Strength User Controls (with names like AddrCmdStren).

That's a shame.
You might want to try setting it to 3000 MHz and see if that works.

Thanks for your help. You've given me a good start on understanding this. I set the memory speed back to the default the motherboard gives me. It will stay like that until I get myself better versed with overclocking. There's no need to do it immediately anyway, just thought it would be nice. I upgraded straight from Sandy Bridge to this setup and I hardly feel like I'm lacking for speed at the moment

Good decision.
I personally spent a few days testing various timings when I OC'd my RAM.
And don't forget to run Memtest86+ to ensure your RAM OC really is stable.
