Question Newbie to PCs, broken screw on fan and refusing to fit into holes.

I'm relatively a newbie with tinkering with PCs, so please bear with me if this is common knowledge.

I have been monitoring my CPU temp for once and decided that my PC needs a quick clean up as it was reaching temperatures of 100 C during use. Cleanup was straightforward until I decided to take off the CPU fan / cooler. I have no knowledge on if what I did was correct, but i detached the four plastic screws on each end of the cooler after unscrewing them. Finished my cleaning and attempted to reattach my cooler only for it to not fit on all four holes on the motherboard. While attempting to reattach it, I've even broken one of the plastic bits of the screw, pic below.

I'm wondering if this cooler is still usable? Considering that the other three pins are still intact, and even then I'm not sure why I am unable to screw them back in. I read that the black pins should be retracted before I attempt to reattach it, but I can't seem to pull them back up so that the white screws are in front. This is a relatively old PC, and I'm assuming that it is a stock cooler from Intel. Here is what is written on the front, if the name of the model helps in any way.

I'm hesitant to buy another cooler as my budget is currently very tight. If I am unable to reattach this cooler traditionally, perhaps I could use something like duct or cello tape? Or perhaps laying the PC flat so that the cooler stays upright? My main problem right now is that I am unable to fit the screws into the holes, and that I'm unable to move the screws on the fan vertically so that I can retract the black piece of the screw.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

you can buy those pins, search ali/ebay for your socket type

Yup, I've noticed in some videos that I am able to replace the pins. However, I'm not sure if the other three of my pins are also out of order, the white parts are not budging at all and I assume that its the main thing preventing me from fitting the cooler into the motherboard. I've tried rotating it left and right and pushing them to somehow fit them into, but it seems that I am unable to fit them in regardless of what I do.

What CPU are you currently using?
It's an i5-4460 3.4 GHz.

I would recommend you pick-up a basic, aftermarket cooler. I am not a fan of those push-pin devices.

Something like this will mount more securely and perform just fine with most CPUs.
Thank you for the suggestion. I've considered just buying another cooler altogether so I'll use this as a reference. However, my budget is a bit of a concern and I would like to attempt to continue using it. I'll keep in mind for it though, thank you.
