Newer android version after reset

I have a tablet that was being spied on (the person spying could see all activity) I did a factory reset and the tablet went from version 4.42 to 5.1.3. I would expect a lower version or the same version not a newer version. Any Ideas as to how this happened.

android devices like IOS devices always get OS updates its just that most users never bother with them or know how to check for them. when you reset the tablet it downloaded and installed the latest version availible

is it an instant thing...because it didn't take long to do the reset...just a minunite or so and it didn't display anything about updating

all a reset does is set everything back to default settings and wipe the internal memory and sense we are dealing with devices that are just 8,16,32GB mainly it doesn't take that long to reset. so its normal
