Question Newer graphics cards on an old monitor

I have an old vga port monitor. I want to upgrade my gpu and I want to buy the GT 1030. But I also read that the 10 series graphic cards only need an active adapter to work (passive doesn't). So I want to ask if this adapter is active or passive so I know do i buy it or not.

What monitor do you have? Is it REALLY worth keeping, or would the cost of the adapter be better spent on a new/better monitor?

Can you please tell me how u saw that the adapter is passive?

I'm not thinking of buying a new monitor because i want to but a new gpu and a new cpu (I won't have enough cash). I guess I'll just buy the Gtx 750 TI, which also has a vga port.
