Dear all

I have been looking at the Intellimouse Explorer 4 with Tilt Wheel and was
wondering if anyone had had much success in using the Tilt Wheel to say
dodge with? I was thinking about getting a wireless one but am unsure as to
the usability of it in UT2K4? How good are wireless units these days? Anyone
with any experience of gaming with this mouse? I know the wheel has no click
when rotating which is apparently a little strange to get used to.

I currently use an Intellimouse Explorer 3 but its had high mileage and I
could do with a replacement and I like the button positioning on this and
the v4 is relatively similar.

Any advice appreciated.

If you are going to another mouse, DO TRY the Logitech MX700, I use one, you
will be very suprised on how much btter it, you will think the MS is a rock
with a light under it after trying the MX700. Wirelless works perfect!!
And unlike the MS mouse, the MX700 has a battery charger charger in the
base, which is a really good advantage!!

Actually, I'm the right guy to ask since I've got both the MX700 and the
Explorer 4.0 on my desk!

MX700:
Switched from an Explorer 3.0a to the MX700 and after a while was wondering
why I was feeling more nauseous from playing. I discovered, by doing A to B
comparisons with both mice plugged in (I cancelled out of the Explorer
driver reinstall so that it installed as a default PS2 mouse since Microsoft
wanted to remove the Logitech drivers :-( ). By staring at the floor in
Gael in 2k3 and doing a circle strafe, I noticed that the MX700 produced a
detectable jitter. This is both with the drivers that shipped with it and
also the latest drivers from the Logitech site. I tried separating the
receiver as far as I could from all other electronics surrounding it to see
if it was interference and that made no difference. Also, removing the
Explorer so that the MX700 was the only one plugged in made no difference.
The problem is very noticeable for me since I run a 9800XT with an Athlon
3000+ which of course runs smooth. I've since tried it in both 2k3 and 2k4
with the same results.

Explorer 4.0:
While I was using the Logitech mouse, my wife's mouse died so I gave her the
Explorer 3.0 and bought a 4.0 since I decided to park the MX700 for a while
hoping to find a solution. Well, after a month the MX700 is still parked.
And the reasons are: the 4.0 has no jitter problem AND is substantially
lighter since it doesn't have rechargeable batteries in it which makes for
much easier quick reaction moves in FPS games. The one negative thing about
the 4.0 is the notchless wheel. I still haven't gotten used to that and it
makes weapons switching a little harder. I haven't tried the tilt wheel in
anything yet either.

I believe both mice are equal in precision now also. Anyway, that's my two
cents worth.

Seconded. Also, the thumb-buttons don't require you to be a mutant.

I get abolutely NO jitter of any kind with my MX700 and it is a fact the
MX700 as a much superior tracking and DPI then the MS (I have a parked 3.0)
so obvisouly the problem is on your computer.
