Newly built computer not coming on

I just built a pc and was turning on for the first time and nothing happened. No fans and no lights. Shouldn't the power supply fan run all the time? Evga 500w power supply. The lights on my video card didn't light up. No case fans, nothing. How do I know if it's the board?

FX 6300-black,msi 970 board, msi 970 gaming 4g gpu, 16gig gskill ripjaw, evga 500w,

Try testing the power supply: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5FWXgQSokF4
See if a fan connected to it does spin, If it does, try starting the board by shortly touching with a screwdriver the 2 pins on the motherboard corresponding to the case power button.

Ok, this is going to sound really ignorant of me, but after reading the reply post it made me think. After I was done with assembly , I plugged it up to the closest plug, turned on power supply and pushed power button and nothing happens. I went to the next two plugs and turned on power supply, what I forgot on the last plugs was the power button. I was a little upset and wasn't thinking. I actually works great. Thank you for your help.
