Newly Built Computer with Internet Connection Problems

Built a new computer from one of NewEgg's Do It Yourself Computer models. Everything came and was assembled and runs perfectly, so that's not the issue. Installed a Windows 8 OS, and have been using a NetGear wireless card. Internet speeds on other computers on the same network work just fine, however this computer has been having download speeds so low they're measured in bytes/sec, while other computers have multiple MB/s. It's possible that the wireless card is simply too far from the router, as it is 2 floors away. Either way, this issue needs to be resolved, and any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

If this is the case, how could I fix this problem? It's been suggested to purchase a an accessory for the motherboard to boost connection. Would this be an optimal resolution?

Run an Ethernet cable. Use powerline networking. or install a closer wireless access point/range extender.
