Newly built PC, Windows 8.1 Pro, can't connect to the internet?

Just recently built my PC, got everything working, Windows 8.1 Pro downloaded, thought I was homefree... until I tried to connect to the internet. On this computer, it is completely wireless and I don't have any ethernet cable connected to my all-in-one modem/router. All of the other computers in the house are wireless, too. They even show my neighbors wi-fis. This one, however, doesn't show any when I try to connect to the internet.

I've tried connected an ethernet cable to it. When I do this, nothing happens.

When I try to troubleshoot, the only message I get is 'Install a driver for your network adapter. Windows did not detect a properly installed network adapter. If you have a network adapter, you will need to re-install the driver."
I have no clue what this means, or the driver that it is telling me to reinstall.

I don't really know what to do at this point. What driver does it want me to install? What should I do?

Thanks for any help you can give

This is a desktop?
Did you purchase and install a WiFi adapter? Or does the motherboard have it built in (rarely)?

Yes, its a built desktop
Don't really have much experience with them, used to all in ones and laptops, sorry
My build is right here: http://pcpartpicker.com/p/rhnkxr
If not having a wifi adapter is the problem, can I just buy any old wifi adapter or does it have to be a specific one to match up to my computer? match up to my router/modem?

thanks

also I just plugged in an adapter (linksys ae3000) and it didnt do anything. when I go to download the drivers on another computer, should i just download them, move them to a usb, and then put them onto the new computer to see if it works?

Desktop motherboards don't have WiFi, unless you really look for that when you purchase. 95% don't.

So...you need a WiFI adapter.
Either USB or PCI-E.

Once you have it, install, and install the driver for it.

However...on the connection scale of Great to Suck...WiFi for a desktop is on the Suck end of things.
Is there a particular reason you can't run a Cat5e cable from the router to the PC?
Or possibly powerline adapters.
