hey i just built my new computer today and just have a few questions.

I got a q9550, and it says i have E0 stepping, so im glad for that, but when i change the FSB to 353mhz for a overclock of 3 ghz, it doesn't change when i save and load up windows, is there something else i must do? I want to take it to 3.5ghz eventually.

Also one stick of the 4gb of g.skill memory i ordered is not being recognized, would the system still load if i have one stick defective or is there something else i did wrong, i have them both in the same color slots.

Any answers are greatly appreciated =D

BIOS should save your settings. You are pressing [F10] to exit the BIOS, right?

Memory problem - swap the two sticks and see if the problem moves. If the problem goes away, the "bad" stick wasn't seated properly in its socket. If the problem moves, the memory is bad. If the problem doesn't move, the motherboard is bad.

Depending on what is wrong with the memory, the system would still load.

Did you disable speed step? Put a load on the CPU with prime95 or something and see if it goes to full speed.

What do you mean by the RAM isn't recognized? What Operating System are you using? A 32-bit OS will only see 3GB - 3.5GB depending on what hardware's installed. Did you manually set the RAM timings and voltage to the manufacturers specs in the BIOS? Have you run memtest86+ overnight to test for RAM errors?

We'll be better able to help you if you post the complete computer specs.

What shortstuff said. Do you have 4x1GB sticks, or 2x2GB sticks? If the former, and you're running a 32bit OS, it may appear that a stick is bad when in fact the OS is limited to 4GB total, minus any used by the video card and any other hardware resources. If you've got a 1GB video card, you're actually going to see less than 3GB of system RAM. Please post those specs.
