Newly installed Windows 8.1 System missing drivers

Hi all,

I recently lost a hard drive and reinstalled Windows 8.1 using a makeshift USB installer. However, after installing Windows 8.1, I don't have any of the drivers or apps that originally came with my system. The bloatware apps I don't care about--but now when I plugin a USB Bluetooth adapter that connects to my router -- the Windows 8.1 installation does not recognize it. So basically, even though my router is sending out the wireless signal, this particular computer doesn't recognize it--it wants me to ... gasp ... plug in an Ethernet cable. Being a room down the hall, this would be a long cable, which I can't afford.

Can anyone point me in the direction of the specific driver I would need installed for Windows 8.1 to be able to recognize the Bluetooth router adapter and connect me to my router?

You have to find out what the brand/model of the motherboard is

Then go to the site. Then select the OS you installed. Download the drivers then install them

It wont work because the 8.1 install didnt install the drivers for it. And you'll have to go to the manufacturer site (of that wireless adapter) then install the drivers for it

If you have the name of the device, google that. Then go to their support page, and look for drivers that matches your bluetooth device. If I'm not mistaken, these are most likely not generic drivers, but specific to the device, like some LAN drivers.

You mean USB wifi? In any case, find the driver for that device first, and install that. It should fix the problem.

You could try to temporarily just connect your computer down the hall, plug in the USB device, have the driver automatically installed (it will take maybe 60 seconds), and then you'll be good to go.

It's a chicken egg problem. You need the driver for that device to get the internet, you need the internet to get that driver.
