Newly upgraded computer won't boot when sata power cords are plugged in.

I recently upgraded my computer with a new mobo(GA-Z170-HD3) a new cpu(i5 6600k) and a new psu(EVGA 750B2). Upon installing the parts everything works until i plug in the sata power cord to the modular power supply. Then it won't boot until i unplug the power cord to the psu for about 10 seconds. Also when the sata power cord stops the computer from booting, I need to unplug the the gpu(r9 280) and reinstall it to work again. I can't update the motherboard with the disk given because the disk drive won't work unless the sata power plug is plugged in.
The hard drive is western digital, model: wd5000aks - 00A7B0.

Sounds like a bad PSU to me.

Also I assume you also have the SATA data cables plugged in?
Some motherboards can be finnicky if only one is plugged in.

Sounds like a bad PSU to me.

I sincerely doubt this is the case because i just sent the a bad psu back on warranty. I've tested the psu on its own and it has no problem starting when its disconnected from everything. it has no problem starting either as long at the sata power cords aren't plugged in.

Nope, not a bad PSU, the B2 is a very good quality unit, and if it was doa it wouldn't boot at all.

Is it possible the my hard drive simply isn't compatible with my motherboard? Or maybe the Psu and hard drive?

Nope, it uses the standardized Sata connection, won't be an issue.
Do a CMOS wipe of your motherboard, could be a stuffup in the BIOS.

check all connections again cpu to cpu connector on mobo psu adapter to mobo leave everything else just to see if it boots up 4 you

the computer will start fine and i can get into the bios as long as the sata power cord isn't plugged in. I tried resetting cmos and nothing changed.

Does your motherboard have multiple sata power cords included with it to test?
Is the BIOS recognizing the drive?

I just had a power issue. It was the Power connector to the hard drive. The SATA power plug was cracked and chipped on the side.
Symptom was a quick flash of power and then nothing, no bios load. After unplugging and waiting a minute I could cause another quick power on then off again.

Get a new plug, or if its the port that's chipped use another one.
You should have multiple in your mobo box.
That's causing your problems.
