Does anyone have any thoughts on when the next AMD price slash will be? I'm
looking at getting a 3500+, as I want S939 for my next setup, but it is
still just an eensy bit too much!!

Cheers

The new 939 4000 and FX 55 is suppose to be out next month, so there should be
a price drop on the older 64's. I'm waitng to too for the 3500 to drop. DOUG

I see where they are coming out with two lower speed 939 cpu's,an 3000 and a
3200 i believe it was . Also they are releasing the new 90nm 939 Cpu's, which
will have better memory controller. DOUG

If the link doesn't work go to www.hardocp.com. Theres some info there on the
new 929's.

It seems true that next price-cut is not very far. I am wondering
which AMD64 CPU to go. 754 or 939? the later would be the future,
but currently there aren't montherboard to select from.

"
CHIP FIRM AMD will cut prices on Athlon 64s on the 15th of October,
according to sources.

The prices below are channel prices, and for boxed processors. No
price cuts are expected on AMD's family of Opteron processors, from
the 140 right up to the 850.

As far as we are aware, Intel has no plans to cut prices on its
desktop CPUs in the near future. But, as always, things can change.

I just got my 90nm 3500 from Monarch for $309 without the HS and Fan. i put a
Gigabyte rocket cooler on it which is much better than the stock cooler. I
have the Gigabyte K8NSNXP 939 motherboard. So far it doesn't like Corsair XMS
3500 ram in Dual mode wont boot. it will boot with one stick,i have 2 Kingston
HYPER X 3500 that i am going to try tonight. I have the F3 bios that shows 12
degrees C so i have to flash to the F4 before it will read right. Monarch
seemed to have the best prices on the Athlon 64's. i ordered it Mon and got it
today. DOUG

The actual performance difference between 754 and 939 boards with like
cpu's is so small you won't notice the difference. The 754 3400+ actually
outperforms the 939 3500+ in some apps. This simply because AMD adds too
much of a model number increase for 939 cpu's with dual channel and larger
cache sizes. The core clock speed is still the most important factor for
most apps (excluding bandwidth benchmarks). And I would suspect that the
754 3700+ will outperform a 939 4000+ in the same manner since the only
difference in the 2 is the dual channel of the 939 cpu, And the 3700+ is
$250 less than the 4000+.🙂

I'm going to go with the Athlon 64 3400+ S754 2.4ghz 512k cache for
$238.

Add in the DFI NF3 LANPARTY UT nF3 250GB for $134 from newegg.com to
complete a killer system.
