They're definitely announcing it at a gaming event as they do with all gaming GPUs. But they usually do it at event you don't know they're going to be at. I've been researching what gaming events that both, come in early August and are well known as well, and I've been predicting an announcement at RTX on August 3 preceding a release on August 24. It's just a hunch, but it feels right. Come on, RTX even shares a name with Nvidia's new Ray-Tracing tech.

If there's one thing I've noticed Jensen Huang hates is being perceived as predictable. I doubt Nvidia cares about making sure the press is there. All of their GPU announcements always makes waves. They know they'll be heard, and they know the word will get out. And I know they've been watching all of us speculate the next-gen release for the past couple of years.
If the Gamescon prediction is correct, they may delay it just to spite and surprise us.

You may get 1080 performance out of the 1160, but I would not expect to see 1060 cost. With no real competition, it is gonna be expensive for awhile. It would not surprise me to see $599 - 1180, $499 - 1170, and $399 for 1160. Infact, you could see those numbers be $699, $599, and $499, but I hope not.

Big pile of 1000 series, launch is going to be Q3-Q4. Makes way more sense. We have a PCB picture and that's it. There is a lot of implementation process between this and a launch.

LOOP: I was at Univac when they announced the 1100/8. It came shortly after the 1100/7, due to Intel's delay of announcing their new higher density memory chip. DO: LOOP

$599 for the 1180 wouldn't be bad. Its similar to what the 1080 launched at. All I know is that AiB, the better cards, will be more for a short time. Best to always wait it out for a few months.

It depends on if nVidia has been ramping it up already or plans to launch then ramp up production. Considering that Volta was skipped in favor of Turing for gamers I think they probably have been ramping up production and it wont take too long to launch.

If their previous generations are any indication, you'll probably see something like this:

  • ■ GTX 1150 ~~ GTX 1060
    ■ GTX 1160 ~~ GTX 1070
    ■ GTX 1170 ~~ GTX 1080 (& 1070TI)
    ■ GTX 1180 ~~ GTX Titan Xp/1080TI

But, I would also guess that at first they'll only release the 1180, maybe the 1170 as well. 1160 or lower probably won't be until a few months after that.

I could have told you, last year even, that the next NVIDIA GPU would use a printed circuit board.

(I suppose it would be news if it looks to be dropping the DVI connector)

...not buying all the speculative hype. Learned my lesson from all the smack before the release of the 980 Ti several years ago.
