Rumor Alert everyone !

Until there is some official confirmation to back up this"leak", kindly approach the following rumor/info/tweet with caution.

With that out of my way, a recent rumor is making rounds on the web hoping to allure the gaming audience to Lara Croft's next adventure in the industry's Tomb Raider's franchise, best known for it's action, exploration, and puzzle-solving gameplay.

As per this new leak, the next installment is taking Lara Croft to INDIA and it will be a fully open-world game. This comes from V Scooper, who has been right about movie stuff before, which turned out to be well-founded, but you should still temper your expectations.

Though, V Scooper is stating they are the main source of this leak with more details “to come soon”, a source actually better known in the movie industry.

Anyway, here is the breakdown:

1. Fully open-world game, with the plot setting set in INDIA. As the tweet reads, a big disaster strikes in northern India which reveals the ancient emperor Ashoka’s ruins and artifacts. Thus, Lara will have to race against some Raiders and other folks to get them first.

2. The game will feature a "big map" in which players will be able to traverse around on motorcycle, parachute, and Lara’s other common traversal methods. So either there will be cliff diving, or Lara will have access to some type of air vehicle as well.

3. The game developers will put emphasis on a new "non-lethal" combat option as well. I presume more refined and/or new stealth elements ?

4. Another feature being mentioned is that this game will be based on recruiting 'teams and allies' to strategically aid you in missions and defeating rivals.

5. This new Tomb Raider game will be released in a year or so. V: “suppose to release in less than a year if there are no delays, but this is totally not locked”

Also, as previously announced by Crystal Dynamics, this new Tomb Raider game will use Unreal Engine 5. But nothing is set in stone though, as any development pipeline can have altered and/or changed plans.

Well that part of the world certainly has a lot of elaborate caves, so one would hope the tombs will get larger and more challenging, something the newer TRs have lacked.

If the world is fully open to explore, then we might see larger and bigger maps like in the AC series.

I'm not a huge TR fan btw, but I just hope the main focus remains on "solo" gameplay mechanics. Because there might be some squad-based missions to complete as well, if they are planning to introduce this new'teams and allies' element as well.

Another major leak came up recently. Let me put this here itself. The Gaming thread is already addled with leaks/info and this might get buried under several threads/comments.

Anyway, I'm almost certain at this point that the AC franchise isn't going to fade away from the gaming industry. A new AC entry has been confirmed. This information comes from the game’s official YouTube channel, so it’s the real deal.

Assassin’s Creed Shadows. Previously it was dubbed as 'Assassin’s Creed Project Red'. The game is supposed to be based on a "Japan-themed" entry.

According to its description, Assassin’s Creed Shadows should release on November 15th, 2024, but this is hardly a concrete info.

Because, Ubisoft plans to officially reveal Assassin’s Creed Shadows on May 15th, i.e. tomorrow. The French company will also first share a cinematic trailer. So stay tuned if you are an AC fan.

Then, during its June showcase event, we can expect its first gameplay trailer.

This sounds FAR more interesting than what I've seen of Mirage, which looks quite bland to me as many reviews have indicated. I would think as well, that even though the combat animations are pretty good in Mirage, this has the potential to be even better. The protagonists in AC have always been a bit Ninja-like, using smoke bombs to escape with and other covert tactics, but the thought of one going up against the Yakuza and actual Ninjas has me very intrigued. It has the potential to be breath taking graphically as well.

Yeah, Mirage is kinda dull actually. I made a mistake by buying it. I got bored by the story, and even the gameplay itself, right in the middle. 🙁

It's final ! Ubisoft has officially announced the next main AC game, Assassin’s Creed Shadows. The game will be released on November 15th, and below you can find its first details as well as its cinematic trailer.

""Assassin’s Creed Shadows takes place in 16th-century Japan during the Azuchi-Momoyama era. Players will play as two distinct characters, a Japanese shinobi, Naoe, and a real-life historical samurai, Yasuke.

In Assassin’s Creed Shadows, you will live the intertwined stories of Naoe and Yasuke. Against the backdrop of the turbulent late Sengoku period, this duo will discover their common destiny as they usher in a new era for Japan.

The game promises to have spectacular castle towns, bustling ports, peaceful shrines, and pastoral landscapes. Ubisoft also claims that AC: Shadows will have unpredictable weather, changing seasons, and reactive environments.""

Interesting protagonist choices. I'm sure there will be many whom will bash it for the male protagonist not being Japanese, and I'm not sure him being based on an actual person will help much. Looks like it could be fun to play though.

Yeah, I really like the new Protagonist. The other one seems to be a non Japanese character as well. A welcome change for sure ! Finally, something fresh out of AC's oven.

I don't care about gender though. But this AC entry really looks nice/cool, and this has the potential to be much better than Mirage, IMO.

"Players will play as two distinct characters, a Japanese shinobi, Naoe, and a real-life historical samurai, Yasuke."

If I understand the above official description correctly, I guess the player will be given the option to easily "swap" between these two characters during the game session (using both stealth and combat), or, are they trying to say we can only play as one character at a time, for the entire playthrough ? A bit confusing to me.

🤔

Actually only the male Samurai one is non Japanese. The female they say grew up in Japan, and has a prominent Japanese figure as a father. Not sure about the character swapping though. I'm sure some might even be upset that we can only have stealth combat with hidden blade playing as the female, but that's the way they did it in Syndicate which sold pretty well.

Yes, I know only the male character is non Japanese. Since the description mentions two characters for the main player, so I was assuming we can play as both of them. IDK, but things are a bit murky right now.

In the video posted above the devs mention that the Samurai male character is more "Combat heavy", and the Shinobi will be more "Stealth heavy". But what this actually means for the player they haven't clearly mentioned.

But anyway, even if we have to choose only stealth as the option I'm okay with this. Yeah, Syndicate was a pretty solid game.

Some update on this. Yes, I think the player would be given the option to opt for either Stealth or Combat, as this official gameplay video shows it clearly. Check around the 7:00 mark, though I have added a timestamp !

The player is given 2 options: Play as Yasuke, or Play as Naoe. So basically we can switch between these two characters for some of the main missions.

As Yasuke, players will strike their foes with brutal precision and power. You’ll have to use his combat-oriented skills to attack, block, parry, and defeat your enemies. Additionally, you’ll be able to master the vast arsenal of weapons at your disposal – featuring katana, kanabo, bows, naginata, and more.

As Naoe, players will use noise, light, and shadows to evade detection as enemies respond to their changing surroundings. You’ll be able to distract guards using kunai, shuriken, and smoke bombs, infiltrate enemy bases with your grappling hook and parkour skills, and assassinate your targets with the hidden blade.
