I was wondering what the next up from the 2500 Barton was. It appears that a lot of time the 2600 thoroughbred is slower. Also, would the 2700 and 2800 thoroughbreds not overclock very much because they are already maxed out?
Would it be the 2800 Barton then because it's not already overclocked. So anotherwards, next up at default, and next up overcloked.(Or maybe two up or something if its a better value.)

Well unless the XP2800+ is an awsome OC'er (which it isn't really as far as I know) the XP2500+ stays the best Barton choice chip.

The 2500 also has a 512KB L2 cache, while the 2600 has only 256KB. Strangely, the 2700 and up all have 512KB. My 2500 is amazingly happy at 200MHz x 10.5 (2100MHz). My A7N8X picks it up as a 3000+ on those settings - lol

(?) You lost me, Svol. Does the + actually indicate something important, or is it just thrown onto the back of every model? Or is there now a 2600+ with 512Kb cache?

Well it shows that it isn't a number but a performance rating. It should be after every XP CPU model number. And I will always include the + to make sure I don't mean an actual MHz speed.

There are several different XP2600+ versions, with 266MHz FSB, 333MHz and now also with 512KB L2 cache IIRC.

Aha, I was unaware of 333MHz version as well as the 512Kb cache model. That's very good to know (Of course when I double check with my favorite local store, there's the 2600+ w/333MHz! - lol).

I think you can compare the XP2600+ with the XP2500+, and they're both made from the same core waffer only the quality is slightly different. And if you take in notice the XP3200+ is (probably) the last XP chip I don't take the Barton core will get much better... but ofcourse the core quality is still improving.
