Hi !

I currently have the following setup...

Core i5-750
XFX 5850 Black edition
Asus ROG Maximus III Gene Mobo
8 Go ram
OCZ Vertex 2 120Go
Seasonic X-650 Gold
Dell Ultrasharp 20' 1680x1050
Seinheiser PC350 headset ( play games when wife/kids are asleep )
Case is antec mini p180

I have a bit of money and would like to upgrade my computer. I plan on reusing the parts on a HTPC or file server.

I play (and will) the following games

Rift
Star Wars : TOR
Diablo 3
Guild Wars 2

I usually play my shooters/sports game on PS3 as my friend play with these. ( COD , NHL )

I try to convince myself that I should wait and simply see if that hardware is not fit for these game and that it would make more sense to upgrade then ( better/cheaper ), but I got an urge to spend some money. It will either be for the PC or a new Nikon lens.

The games you've listed would benefit more from a graphics (and maybe better RAM, as you haven't listed the make/model) upgrade than a CPU upgrade. However, if you feel the need to spend:

Upgrade the CPU to an i5-2500k w/ Hyper 212+ CPU cooler (for overclocking)
Upgrade the GPU to a 6990
What is the make/model of your RAM?
If you can't fit the upgrades into your current case, then maybe a new case, too.

8Go - G.Skill Ripjaws CL7 1600 mhz ( 4x2Go )
Already have a Hyper212+ cooler actually. Was the best bang for the buck when I bought my i5.

I guess the video card will be the easiest and most effective update. I just need to find the strenght to wait!
