So I went to kick it old school and play some NFS Carbon the other day. I have the collectors edition actual game DVD not a copy, etc. When I put it in the DVD drive starts up and spins for a bit, and then comes up with an error msg that I believe shows something like wrong disc inserted, please insert correct disc. I've played the game before on a similar Windows 7 PC without any issues with the exact same DVD.

I then tried a used copy of Sims 2 Deluxe and the game DVD which is in actually really good shape is not even recognized. For giggles I tried playing NFS Most Wanted 2005 which I also have the original DVD's for and it loaded and played fine. Hmmmm

I did do a search online but some pointed to people who have downloaded it online and needed a patch, etc.

I'll probably just uninstall and reinstall it to see if that solves it, but wanted to see if anyone had any ideas.

Thank you

If the game is a legit copy, you might want to see if there are any patches for the games. To also add, you could try and run the game in compatibility mode, assuming you're on Windows 10 or above, you can right click installer>Properties>Compatibility tab>Windows 7(from the drop down menu).

Yes it's the authentic actual collectors edition DVD. The odd thing is that it works fine in a similar PC running Windows 7, but not in this other one. I was thinking the DVD drive was perhaps going bad, but loading/playing NFS Most Wanted 2005 works just fine. I guess I'll go ahead and reinstall. I think I did try compatibility mode a while back, but will give that a try first. Thanks

If it works on one pc but not on another, that just goes to show that the pc that it doesn't run on has some problem, most likely a OS issue, if it is not an hardware issue, but then again if you where just trying to play a game the follow-up to rectify the issue might become a little to much.

Don't listen to others saying you could no cd or dvd fix it with a simple exe file, because usually finding one that actually does what it's supposed to make the game that had been properly installed just magically run might be far fetched, these so called fixes might be accompanied by malware or ransomewhere or just plain old virusses.

And doing so your pc witch at this point is still working might end up needing the good ol reformat and reinstaling everything just to make one game work right.

Besides that, it's great to read from somebody whom attempts to play old collectors dvd versions of great games as they where back in the day, great stuff!
