Hi everyone,

I recently purchased NFSU 2 after my original copy died. I installed the game and started playing again but in the last few days the game has been crashing to the desktop at random intervals.

Upon checking the Application Event viewer I am seeing the following error:

"The description for Event ID ( 0 ) in Source ( ) cannot be found. The
local computer may not have the necessary registry information or message
DLL files to display messages from a remote computer. You may be able to use
the /AUXSOURCE= flag to retrieve this description; see Help and Support for
details
"

I can see no reason for this issue to occur. I thought it was originally related to graphics drivers but have updated them to the latest version for my 8800GT SLI setup. I have also disabled force feedback though I am only using the Logitech Rumblepad 2 controller.

My current spec of the PC is more than adequate to run a 4 year old game but it's listed below all the same:

C2D 2.66GHz O/C to 3GHz
4GB DDR2 RAM
2 x 8800GT SLI
MSI P7N SLI Mobo
22" Widescreen LCD
250GB Seagate SATA drive

I am currently running Crysis on the PC with no issues so am convinced it is either related to the NFSU2 install or the logitech controller. If anyone can provide some insight into this problem, it would be appreciated as it's starting to bug me. I would rather not have to reinstall the game as I'm not convinced that would resolve the issue.

Thanks,

Julian

This happened to me all the time, whenever I seemed to enter shops or races. When I restarted my career however, I haven't experienced it crash at all. Yet. (knock on wood) I recommend doing that.

I tried that but it crashed to desktop after I finished racing in Rachel's 350Z. I have now uninstalled the game as it's starting to annoy me. I never had this problem with the last install and nothing has changed with the spec of my machine.

I have now re-installed the game and I am getting the same issue again. I will be trying a fresh install of Win XP on a new drive to rule out any problems with my OS build and then I will try to install the game again to see if the same issue appears. If anyone else can provide some insight into this problem, it would be appreciated.

i had same problem, and it turned out to be my cacked exe file didnt match my games version.
update to v1.2 then get the v1.2 cracked exe for your language.

Step 1. download version 1.2 update

http://www.nfs-planet.de/nfs8_patch.php

Step 2. Install Version 1.2 Update.

(This is simply done by clicking the file that has been previously downloaded in step 1, after double clicking the install will be automated fully.)

Step 3. Download Version 1.2 cracked Speed2.EXE file. This will be inside a .RAR file.
****NOTE**** YOU WILL NEED WINRAR OR A PROGRAM EQUIVALANT TO WINRAR FOR EXTRACTION
link to WINRAR:http://download.cnet.com/WinRAR-32-bit/3000-2250_4-10007677.html?tag=mncol

Link to v1.2 speed2.exe
http://dl.gamecopyworld.com/?d=2005&f=hlmnu212!rar

Step 4. Extract.

(You can either extract it directly to your NFSU2 program folder, or just move it there. Under normal circumstances it will ask you if you want to overwrite the speed2.exe already there, obviously do overwrite.)

Default speed2.exe location:
C:\Program Files\EA GAMES\Need for Speed Underground 2

I Recommend you right click and create a short cut to your desktop of your new speed2.exe and delete all other shortcuts from previous installations.
