NHL 2005 - play-by-play commentary

Does anyone know why the play by play commentary would not be working? I
don't recall changing anything but reset everything to the defaults
anyway, still nothing.

I've set up a season and do not get play by play; under the sound
settings, the "commentary volume" is greyed out.

I can play a quick play game and don't get play by play but the
"commentary volume" is not greyed out.

any ideas?

go back to the sound settings and turn off on ice sound
