I just upgraded from W98 to WXP HE and now I can't get my Ethernet port to
work. It shows as enabled but I can't get to the internet. I can get there
with dial up but not with my Cable modem. Any help is appreciated thanks.

Try resetting the modem. Unplug the power cord, wait about a minute, plug
it back in.

I suppose you are connected via DSL modem and an on-board ethernet port. If
so, check the network settings-configuration-advanced and make sure the
speed/duplex settings are full duplex 10MB. I think most DSL modems are
using 10MB settings. I tried techsupport, searching the internet, newsposts,
and no help. I had to try a few things .... after 2hours with HP
techsupport, days upon days of serching the internet.

Try this:

Go to Start->Run and type CMD then click Ok. this will give you a command
box
At the command prompt type the following pressing the Enter key after each

ipconfig /release
ipconfig /renew
